This is a beautiful day-flying moth which has been expanding northwards within the UK, once restricted primarily to the channel isles. Caterpillars can be reared indoors on common host plants, or maintained outdoors where they will hibernate and resume feeding in the spring. Adult moths enjoy feeding on nectar from Buddleia and other flowers on warm sunny days!

Host plants: Common Nettle (Urtica dioica), Hemp-agrimony (Eupatorium cannabinum), White Dead-nettle (Lamium album), Borage (Borago officinalis), plantains (Plantago Spp.), Ground-ivy (Glechoma hederacea) and Bramble (Rubus fruiticosus).

Difficulty: Very easy (1/10)

Temperature: Room temp. or outside.

Lifecycle: Continually brooded indoors; larvae will go dormant in winter outdoors, then wake up in spring.
