About Bugs & Butterflies UK Ltd

Bugs & Butterflies UK began as a small hobby project created by our owner and director, Stuart, who originally sold surplus livestock from his personal breeding collections. It quickly became clear that there was a growing community of people passionate about rearing butterflies, moths and other insects - so the hobby expanded into a dedicated business supplying a wide range of live species across the UK, EU, and further afield.

Today, Bugs & Butterflies UK provides eggs, caterpillars, pupae and live insects to hobbyists, educators, collectors, academic institutions, zoos and public butterfly houses. We specialise in high-quality livestock for rearing projects of all experience levels, from beginners to advanced breeders.

Our Experience

Stuart’s passion for insects began in early childhood and has continued throughout his life. What started as a personal interest grew into professional experience working in a butterfly house exhibit, and now into operating a full-time butterfly farm with over 20 years of hands-on expertise.

Our work combines:

  • A reliable network of experienced breeders and trusted international suppliers
  • On-site greenhouses dedicated to breeding butterflies and moths
  • Specialist knowledge in insect husbandry, lifecycle management and rearing conditions

Our long-term vision includes expanding to a larger facility, enabling us to breed and supply eggs, caterpillars and pupae year-round with even greater capacity.

Breeding Enclosures

This is one of our breeding enclosures in the summer of 2025, it provides a perfect environment for tropical butterflies where we produce many species such as the Owl, Passionvine and Blue Morpho butterflies during the main season without additional heating - maintaining our low carbon footprint.
