Almost never available in captivity, Acherontia styx, commonly known as the eastern or lesser death’s-head hawkmoth, is a large and impressive moth species native to South and Southeast Asia. It is closely related to the famous death’s-head hawkmoth and is known for its robust body, strong flight, and distinctive skull-like marking on the thorax. The larvae are large and colorful, feeding primarily on plants in the Solanaceae family such as potato and eggplant but in captivity also enjoys privet. Acherontia styx eggs are ideal for enthusiasts interested in rearing a dramatic and fast-growing hawkmoth species with a striking adult form.
