Elephant Hawk-Moths are one of the most fun native species to rear - caterpillars become huge and resemble cartoonish snakes, while adult moths occur in shades of pink. This pink colouration has earned the Elephant Hawk-Moth some popular recognition, but the caterpillars are equally as striking (see photos). Moths emerge and breed in late spring or early summer, typically producing only a single brood per year, however a second brood is possible during warmer or particularly productive seasons. Fuchsia, Willowherb, and Bedstraw are all excellent host plants - my preference is to use Willowherb due to its large, abundant foliage and flowers. Adult moths drink nectar from flowers such as Honeysuckle at night time.
