Attacus lorquinii is a species of moth belonging to the Saturniidae family, which includes some of the largest and most impressive moths in the world. Commonly found in the Philippines and parts of Southeast Asia, this species is closely related to the more widely known Attacus atlas (Giant Atlas moth). A. lorquinii is notable for its large wingspan, which can reach up to 20-25 cm, as well as its stunning wing patterns and beautiful rusty red and orange colouration.

The wings of Attacus lorquinii exhibit intricate, earthy tones of reddish-brown, maroon, and gray, with translucent triangular "windows" that are characteristic of many Attacus species. These markings are believed to help the moth evade predators by resembling eyes or creating camouflage in its natural habitat.

Like other silk moths, Attacus lorquinii is nocturnal and does not feed as an adult, relying instead on fat reserves accumulated during its caterpillar stage. The caterpillars are large, green, and feed on the leaves of various host plants, including tropical trees and shrubs, as well as multiple common plants. They resemble the larvae of Atlas, except lorquinii has yellow tubercles.

Host plants - Privet, Lilac, Ailanthus, Sweetgum, Willow. Multiple others reported.

Difficulty - Caterpillars require clean conditions (5/10); cocoons are very easy to hatch (1/10)

Temperature - Room temperature or warmer; cocoons emerge sooner with warmth and humidity.

Lifecycle - Continually brooded; cocoons can become dormant in winter.
