Philippine Atlas Moth | Attacus lorquinii EGGS
Philippine Atlas Moth | Attacus lorquinii EGGS
Attacus lorquinii is a large silkmoth species native to tropical regions of the Philippines. Closely related to atlas, these moths have beautiful, rusty red colouration - not quite as intense in colour but equally as beautiful as atlas. Breeding occurs quite easily, and cocoons are simple to hatch, however caterpillars can be a challenge to rear (though nonetheless worth the effort!). They probably appreciate some warmth and certainly enjoy humidity, and can be reared on a variety of plants listed below.
Host plants - Privet, Lilac, Ailanthus, Sweetgum, Willow. Multiple others reported.
Difficulty - Caterpillars can be difficult (6/10); cocoons are very easy to hatch (1/10)
Temperature - Room temp. or warmer; cocoons emerge sooner with warmth
Lifecycle - Continually brooded; cocoons can become dormant in winter.
