Nudaurelia dione EGGS
Nudaurelia dione, the Golden Emperor, is a giant silkmoth species found across large parts of Africa, although DNA evidence has recently been used to suggest this may actually be a larger complex of multiple closely related (but distinct) species. These pupae are from Kenya. Moths tend to emerge quite sporadically, however breeding is possible if you can synchronise emergence. Caterpillars are not at all demanding and become colourful in later stages. Airy conditions are probably preferred by caterpillars, however they will enjoy a misting from time to time.
Difficulty - Easy (2/10)
Host plants - Oak; Sweet Gum; Willow; Eucalyptus
Conditions - Room temperature; pupae will emerge sooner with warmth
Lifecycle - Continually brooded but pupae go into diapause during periods of unfavourable weather
