Papilio polytes PUPAE

from £14.50

The Common Mormon, a small-mid sized swallowtail butterfly widespread across Asia. Easy to breed and rear in captivity, caterpillars feed on multiple plants in the citrus family - Choisya and Skimmia are probably the most convenient as they are very commonly grown in gardens and parks across the UK.

During the summer, these butterflies can often be kept in enclosures outdoors during good weather as they enjoy the sunshine. A sunny spot indoors is also fine, or a greenhouse if you have access. Sugar water and flowers should be provided for butterflies to feed on, and some sprigs of host plant if you plan to breed them.

Host plants: Citrus, Choisya, Skimmia, Zanthoxylum, etc.

See Care Guides for breeding and rearing information.
