Methona confusa PUPAE

from £24.50

The Giant Glasswing, Methona confusa (Butler, 1873), is native to forested and mountainous areas of Central and South America. Total wingspan is around 10-12cm, making this a fairly large butterfly, and its wings have completely transparent windows. It is not particularly difficult to breed in a butterfly house, as it enjoys warmth and humidity, using its host plant Brunfelsia. In the wild, they have been encountered at altitudes as high as 3,500m, so presumably this is a resilient species tolerant of a range of temperatures. Nectar solution and/or fruit juice are best food sources; care guies should be followed for best results with pupae and butterflies.
