Hyalophora euryalis is commonly known as the Ceanothus Silk Moth due to one of its common host plants - California Lilac (Ceanothus). This is a remarkable and large silk moth species native to North America, particularly found in regions like California. This moth's wingspan can exceed 15cm, making it one of the largest moths in its range. The Ceanothus Silk Moth exhibits striking and intricate wing patterns with a mix of colors, including shades of red, brown, and white. Their caterpillars feed primarily on the leaves of Ceanothus shrubs, a diverse group of plants found in western North America, in addition to Willow, Cherry, and others. These can be extremely challenging to rear, and seem to do best with fairly dry conditions and lots of ventilation. Despite their difficulty, caterpillars are spectacular.
