SUMMER: Eacles penelope EGGS

from £14.50

Eacles masoni, or Mason's Imperial Moth, is a remarkable and rare moth species found primarily in Central and South America. These large moths exhibit impressive features, with wingspans reaching up to 15 centimeters. Their wings are coloured in shades of yellow, orange, brown etc. and disguise among fallen leaves. They belong to the silkmoth family, Saturniidae, known for their impressive silk-producing capabilities, however this species pupates underground and only spins a very loose cocoon. These are simple to rear, essentially the same as for imperialis, however this species may have 2 or more broods annually. Hosts include: Oak, Sweetgum, Sumac, and probably others. This species is extremely rarely available - I have never kept nor offered it before now!
