These moths are huge! Actias selene, commonly known as the Indian moon moth, is a beautiful species of Saturniid moth found in various parts of South and Southeast Asia, including India. Livestock in the hobby has traditionally been from India, but this is no longer possible. This moth is celebrated for its striking appearance and large size. It features a wingspan that can span up to 20 centimeters, with distinct traits such as long, curving tails on its hindwings and intricate wing patterns and pink hues. Its caterpillars are equally fascinating, beginning bright red, then changing to green as they mature. This species has long been a favourite for hobbyists and enthusiasts. Caterpillars are very easy to rear, accepting a wide range of host plants: Hawthorn, Willow, Birch, Cherry, Laurels, Eucalyptus - and many others!
