MAY: Painted Lady Butterfly PUPAE

The Painted Lady butterfly is a fascinating species found on every continent except Antarctica. It is one of the most widely distributed butterflies globally, and its migratory behavior allows it to undertake impressive journeys across vast distances. With its intricate and beautiful orange, black, and white wing patterns, the Painted Lady is a true spectacle in flight. This species is known for its mass migrations, with populations moving from one region to another in search of suitable breeding grounds, typically following warm weather - flying north in for our summer and south again when winter comes, different to the other butterflies in this mix, the Painted Lady does not spend the winter on the British Isles. The Painted Lady feeds on nectar from various flowers and lays its eggs on host plants like thistles, mallows, and nettles. Its resilience, adaptability, and incredible migratory journeys make it a true wonder of the butterfly world.
