MAY/JUN: Comma Butterfly PUPAE

The Comma butterfly is a unique and fascinating species found in Europe and parts of Asia. It gets its name from the characteristic white comma-shaped mark on its wings. Its wings are a mix of orange, brown, and black, providing excellent camouflage against tree bark and leaves. The Comma butterfly has a distinctive jagged outline, which helps it blend in with dead leaves and protect itself from potential predators. This species is known to hibernate in more sheltered locations during the winter months. The Comma butterfly feeds on rotting fruit, sap, and nectar, and its caterpillars consume various host plants, including nettles and hops.
