MAY/JUN: European Green Toad TADPOLES

Bufo viridis, commonly known as the European green toad, is a medium-sized amphibian found in central, southern, and eastern Europe. It is characterized by its distinctive green coloration, which can vary from bright green to olive green, often with dark spots or markings. Some geographical races have pink colouration too. These toads inhabit a range of environments, they are primarily terrestrial but are also good swimmers. European green toads have a diet consisting mainly of insects and other small invertebrates. Breeding typically occurs in shallow, temporary pools or ponds during the spring months, often in response to rainy weather filling vernal pools. Females lay strings of eggs, and tadpoles develop in the water.
