MAY: Midwife Toad TADPOLES

Alytes obstetricans, commonly known as the common midwife toad, is a fascinating amphibian species native to parts of Europe, including the Iberian Peninsula, and also occurs in the UK due to accidental introductions. These toads are known for their unique reproductive behavior, where males carry strings of eggs wound around their hind legs until they hatch. This behavior has earned them the name "midwife toad." They have compact bodies with warty skin and a gray-brown coloration, providing camouflage in their terrestrial habitats. Common midwife toads are primarily nocturnal, preying on insects and small invertebrates. Their distinct call, resembling the chiming of bells, is a common sound in their breeding season.
