Samia ricini, commonly known as the Eri Silkworm or the Castor Silkworm, is a species of silk moth belonging to the family Saturniidae. Like the domesticated silkworm (Bombyx mori), this species is raised for silk production. In addition to silk production, Eri Silkworms are also valued for their pupae, which are consumed as a source of protein in some regions. They play an important role in the culture and economy of the regions where they are cultivated. Very easy to rear at home, caterpillars will feed on plants like: Privet, Laurels, Sweetgum, Ash, Lilac, Castor, Willow, and others.
