Citrus swallowtails include a wide range of butterflies that feed on plants in the Citrus family. Easy to breed and rear in captivity, caterpillars feed on multiple plants related to Citrus - Choisya and Skimmia are probably the most convenient as they are very commonly grown in gardens and parks across the UK. These are collected at random from the host plants in the butterfly house, meaning they may include one or many species, although none can be specifically guaranteed. Typically during the breeding season, the following species breed at various times: Papilio polytes, P. lowi, P. memnon, P. rumanzovia, P. demoleus, P. demodocus, P. nireus, P. phorcas, P. dardanus, P. dehaani, P. cresphontes. During the summer, these butterflies can often be kept in enclosures outdoors during good weather as they enjoy the sunshine. A sunny spot indoors is also fine, or a greenhouse is even better if you have access to one. Sugar water and flowers should be provided for butterflies to feed on, and some sprigs of host plant if you plan to breed them.
