The Painted Lady butterfly is a fascinating species found on every continent except Antarctica. It is one of the most widely distributed butterfly species, and its migratory behavior allows it to undertake impressive journeys over many thousands of niles. This species is known for its mass migrations, with populations moving from one region to another in search of suitable breeding grounds, typically following favourable weather - flying north for our summer and south to warmer climates again when winter comes. Normally, the Painted Lady does not spend the winter on the British Isles, but our warming climate means that some southern regions (including the Channel Islands) may host these butterflies year-round,. Its resilience, adaptability, and incredible migratory journeys make it a true wonder of the butterfly world. See care guides for breeding and rearing information.
